Breast reconstruction, most commonly performed on women, is the reformation of a patient's breast, either by using their own tissue or synthetic material. From DIEP Flap (Deep Inferior Epigastric Perforator Flap) to Autologous Augmentation (breast reconstruction using the patient’s own tissue), these procedures are designed to reconstruct the breast, simulating its natural form and shape after the loss of one or both breasts. The various developments in breast reconstruction now offers patients additional alternative after undergoing a mastectomy. SGAP Flap (Gluteal Artery Perforator Flap) for example, uses upper gluteal muscle to reconstruct the breast if the patient doesn’t have sufficient tissue in the abdomen to complete the surgery. I-Gap Flap (Inferior Gluteal Artery Perforator Flap) uses the inferior skin and fat from the bottom portion of the buttock.

Other options include SIEA Flap (Inferior Epigastric Artery Flap) which borrows skin and fatty tissue from the abdomen to reconstruct the breast.
