New York Lipectomy
A lower body lift is also known as a belt lipectomy. This procedure offers a dramatic transformation in the mid to lower body, including the abdomen, hips, thighs and buttocks. The lipectomy is basically a combination of a tummy tuck, thigh lift and buttock lift. It transforms bodies of those who have had a dramatic weight loss but it also works in patients who just want a tightening of their lower body.
About Lipectomy Procedures
During a lipectomy procedure, excess skin and fat from the whole midsection is removed. The surgery can be done in one session or more, depending on the patient's needs. Incisions are made from the back around the hips and to the front of the thigh and the loose skin and fat is removed from underneath the incision. These incisions are designed to hide under clothing and normal skin folds. The major benefit of a lower body lift procedure is that multiple areas of the body are addressed in one surgery. It can also be combined with breast surgery, arm lift or liposuction for a total-body resculpturing.
Lipectomy Candidates
Good candidates for lipectomy include people who have the following:
- loose skin on the thighs and buttocks
- loose skin on the abdomen
- thin layers of fat beneath the skin on the lower part of the body
- loose skin on the hips and inner thighs
- those who have recently had a dramatic weight loss
If any of these apply to you, a lower body lift may be a great solution for changing the look and feel of your body. Each patient is different, however, and it is best to consult Dr. Goldstein before determining whether a lipectomy is right for you.
Lipectomy Recovery Process
After your lipectomy procedure, you will remain in the hospital for a few days where surgical drains will be placed in the incisions to drain out the fluid that accumulates inside of them. These are usually left in for two or three weeks, depending on how long it takes for the fluid to reach a low enough level. The drains are then removed in an outpatient setting. Once the drains are removed, it should be easier to move around and walking the day after surgery is encouraged. The sutures in the incision may require removal as well, about two weeks after surgery. To control swelling, compression garments can be placed on the patient at the discretion of Dr. Goldstein. It takes about four to six weeks following surgery to resume normal activities, and it is best to take it easy and get lots of rest to ensure a safe and quick recovery.
