Trigger Finger Release

Trigger finger, otherwise known as stenosing flexor tenosynovitis, is a common inflammatory disorder of the flexor tendons of the fingers. It causes locking of the affected finger in a flexed position, with varying degrees of severity. It affects women more commonly than men.

Sometimes it can be treated with a small injection of steroid solution. However, in some cases operative treatment is necessary. This enatils a quick procedure, where a small incision is made at the base of the finger. A band like structure then can be released so that the internal catching and locking does not continue. Postoperatively, sutures and a dressing are placed. Finger movement begins early to return the finger to a more normal level of function.
